Jana Marsik - Director of PhotographyJana Marsik was born in 1974 in Kiel by the Baltic Sea. After school she took up black & white photography. In 1996 she was trained on a Bolex camera at a film-workshop in Boston where she also shot her first shorts on video. Back in Germany she worked as a clapper loader and lighting assistant, as well as at a cinema’s box office, before commencing her studies at the camera department of the Film and Television University “Konrad Wolf” in Potsdam-Babelsberg. After gaining her degree, she worked as a professional DoP for directors Detlev Buck, Lars Büchel, Leander Haußmann and Christian Zübert to name but a few. In 2002 she won the Junior Prize at the German Camera Awards for best photography in the short films “Schlorkbabies an der Raststätte” by Petra Volpe und “Long Shot” by Klaus Charbonnier. In 2009 she received the Bavarian Film Award for her camera work for both “Same Same but Different” and “Lippel`s Dream”, for which she was also nominated at the German Film Awards. In 2009 she produced, shot and directed the Latvian documentary “Roku Rokâ - Hand in Hand” which premiered at the Hof International Film Festvial. |
